Heritage Plants Nursery was started by Elize in September 2004 after living with her Husband John in Underberg since 1996 and getting to know Underberg’s’ climate with its harsh winters!
This makes gardening very unique and the need to understand the microclimates and sourcing suitable hardy plants was initially quite difficult and “Not all gardeners understand the different degrees of cold you get”.
Because of this, we sourced seed from all over the world to see how the plants would fare in these conditions. We now propagate 85% of what we sell.
Based just outside Underberg, in the Southern Drakensberg; Heritage Nursery specializes in Perennials, shrubs, trees and hardy severe cold climate plants and our clients come from all over South Africa.
Each client has a different need - some like to plant the same varieties every year, others are always on the lookout for something new and exciting. So, it is a challenge to keep the interest going, not to mention that colors are also playing an important part.
